Philosophy
The philosophy of the Pathway and routes is to provide students with a course of study offering a coherent balance between prescription and choice, coverage and specialisation. The modules available on the pathway give students the opportunity to study Business Management / Business I.T, Computing, Software Development and Internet Systems Development from both conceptual and vocational perspectives.
COURSE STRUCTURE
The course is run over six semesters / 3 terms for full-time students. In the first year you study 4-6 modules from QCF level 4, in the second year 4-6 QCF level 5 modules, and in the final (3rd Year) year 4-6 QCF level 6 modules.

Modules
In order to meet the stated aims and objectives of the pathway and provide students with a coherent balance between dictated and chosen study, and to remain within the parameters of the modular programme, a distinction is made between three types of module;
Core Modules
Core modules are compulsory for all students on the pathway.
Option Modules
As the name indicates these modules are non-compulsory. You may select from a range of modules on the computing pathway in order to make up an appropriate number of modules.
Elective Modules
Any module from within the modular scheme may be selected as an elective except in the case where a lack of a prerequisite module would prohibit the choice. Students may select one elective module in each of levels.
Module Assessment
Most modules at level one are assessed by two to four (2-4) pieces of coursework/assignments which are equally weighted. To pass a module student must achieve at least 50% as a whole.
Progress from Semester to Semester
Normally you must pass all modules in a semester/term in order to proceed to the next semester. If you have not been successful in the assessments for a module(s) you may be given referred work to redeem the shortfall. If the referred work is still not satisfactory you will have to repeat the module if it is a core module. If it is an option or elective module you can choose to repeat the module or pick a different module.
